Our plan was to go to the Ballard Locks today.

Well, our plan was to sit around looking at each other until one of us came up with a brilliant idea for fun in rainy weather.  And then the sun came out unexpectedly and we hitched up the boat and drove as fast as we could to Lake Washington.  That’s where the Locks came in.

After boating from Mercer Island to Lake Union {everything’s connected here}, we realized that going seven knots was not going to get us where we needed to go soon enough.  So we parked in the middle of the lake, soaked in the views and sun rays, ate some dinner, and then turned back.

We know our days in Seattle are numbered.  Spending the day on Lake Washington with our dear friends was such a wonderful start to the summer.  Because when the sun shines in Seattle, there’s not a more beautiful place on this great green earth to be.

I think both Mr. Wright and I got a little nostalgic as we boated through our old stomping grounds.  So much of our lives has happened in this great city.  We went to high school and college here, met here, were married here, had our children here; we made our best friends here.

We were glad to have had the opportunity to say goodbye to this beautiful place.

It really was supposed to rain today – we couldn’t believe our luck.  The sun shone and it wasn’t too cold.  It’s back to rain tomorrow, and the next ten days after that.  We’re glad to be moving to the sun, but sad to be leaving Seattle.

We think we saw Bill Gates at his house on the lake today.  The kids waved.  “Hi Bill!”

Thank you friends, for such a wonderful day.  Here’s to many more Shaw-Wright Memorial weekends!!  {even if they are in Big Sky Country…}
