Beunas tardes mi amigas y mi amigos! I hope that makes sense, I have a rudimentary understanding of Español.
The other night a bunch of girlies and I got together to make amazing Mexican food. And this isn’t your local Las Fill-In-The-Blank food either. This is homemade grub, straight from the Mexican grocery store. If you’re interested in learning how to make this:

Or this:

Cross the border to DownWright Tasty! All of the instructionnes are there.
Now, I need your help. I need some really good ideas to plan out the rest of my group’s themes for the year. Here’s what we’ve done or got planned so far:
-
Pasta making √
-
Thai √
-
Bread making √
-
Mexican √
-
Recipe Exchange
-
Cake decorating
So, if you could learn how to make something, what would it be?
those recipes looks awesome. it must be so fun to have a cooking group like this. have a great weekend!
It’s way fun Amy – I’ve loved every minute of it!
I think learning how to make “gourmet” ravioli or tortellini would be fun.
Learning how to make a killer, authentic Pad Thai would be cool.
Taking Mom Babe’s “10 weeks of recipes” idea would be the ideal theme for a recipe exchange. Use that night to make the pockets, everyone bring their typed recipe cards, try a couple of the recipes for the evenings festivities.
I would love to know how to make a beautiful, layered chocolate cake. Classic. Another cool recipe would be a true red velvet cake. They are hard to get right, I’ve tried many times! Kids cakes are fun but knowing how to make a “beautiful” cake would be cool twist.
Have fun! Wish I were there!
looks yummy! And I don’t even know what to suggest. Maybe the perfect loaf or bread? I’ve heard that if you add vinegar then it’s not so crumbly…. YOU test it out and let me know.
I want to learn how to make sushi rolls, or tasty fish.
Yum!! You could try fancy schmancy desserts, French cooking, or Cajun cooking. Just a few more ideas. That sounds like such a fun idea!
Nicki, it really is too bad that we live several thousand miles away from each other, because man, we would totally be soul mates. You have a COOKING GROUP! I am green-eyed with jealousy.
That said, I want to learn to make really authentic Indian cuisine. Mine is good, but it just doesn’t have that delicious sauciness that makes you gobble up piece after piece of sauce-soaked naan. Mmm…calories. Those are literally the only cookbooks where I honest-to-goodness have to keep my mouth closed to avoid saliva dribbling all over the place.
And croissants, because I’m really intimidated by that whole “dough packet” and “enfolding the layers of butter four times” thing. But I dearly love croissants.
In general, though, I’d like to learn more creative things to do with vegetarian-type ingredients. We’re trying so hard over here to be more Word-of-Wisdomy and eat less meat, but man, it’s hard. I like cows.
oh man. I was hungry before I looked at these pictures…and now I am starving!
Hey, I would make cards…
A handmade card is so personal and awesome. For teachers, birthdays, friends, grandparents. Kind of like scrapbooking, only funner.
Is that a word?
P.S. Yes, that crazy red head is my Mom, and she has been an amazing Mom my entire life!
I want to learn how to make a pumpkin roll. I’ve had the recipe from the back of the Libby’s can label forever, but I’m intimidated. I even bought the ingredients last weekend. Must conquer my fear!
You should totally do Indian. I know you can.
Amy–have you read “The Lost Ravioli Recipes of Hoboken” by Laura Schenone? That book will teach you not only about making fabulous, authentic revioli (and other pastas, sauces, etc) but is an incredible journey to understanding family relationships while reading a very absorbing story! :)
Well I just want to come! Please oh, please, oh please oh please!
How fun!
OK…theme..
Japanese, Chinese, seafood night ( I love to cook saefood), New Ow-lans cuisine, Southern cooking, soups and salads, chocolate. I saw Pauline Dean the other day doing a Black and White night…. entree was black angus steak grilled with goat cheese on top, dessert was a coconut cake with chocolate shavings on top, possibilities are endless.
Hey Island cuisine? breakfast recipes…I’m on a roll……
ps-so adding her to my blog roll for my own reference. Awesome!
Dang, girl! Do you take those photos yourself? They’re beautiful! Your food looks amazing.
dat food look good
